After exploring the park, drop into the Luray Caverns, the largest in the eastern United States, then make a pit stop for food at Moonshadows Restaurant. If weather permits, dine in the back garden to stay outdoors all day long.” – Travel & Leisure Magazine.

Our Story

Moonshadows Restaurant is the newest and most unique restaurant located in downtown Luray, Virginia. Much time and thought have been given to providing a location which offers beautiful surroundings with the comfort of the guests in mind. The building has undergone a complete renovation resulting in an upscale restaurant environment offering versatile inside and outside options for dining and entertaining.

The name Moonshadows is supported throughout by the use of color and art – every picture has a moon in it! The grounds have been landscaped and maintained organically and contribute to the relaxed feeling of the site.

Moonshadows is centrally located on Main Street in Historic Downtown Luray, Virginia and was designed and developed to provide an upscale yet casual environment for friends, family and business associates to gather.

As proprietors of Moonshadows John and Maureen Moss have contributed their combined sixty years of experience in the hospitality and restaurant business to the design and development of this inviting location.

They met while working in the restaurant of a country inn located in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Page County, Virginia. Their work together took them to a Caribbean resort in Bocas del Toro, Panama where as Chef and server they managed The Sunset Grill.

In June of 2006 they were married in Waynesboro, Virginia at the Moss Barn and two years later chose the site for Moonshadows.

Since then their journey has resulted in several Executive Chef positions for John and restaurant and event management for Maureen. They look forward to sharing their restaurant with others who love great food.
